Mastering rainy day camping turns a dismal forecast into a relaxing retreat. Here is how I stay warm and dry outdoors.
Many campers pack up the moment skies turn grey, but learning to embrace foul weather changes the entire mood of the woods. The sounds, the distinct smell of wet earth, and the quiet solitude are rewards you simply cannot find on a sunny afternoon. By honing your campcraft skills, you stop fighting the environment and start working with it, creating a shelter that feels secure and inviting even during a downpour.
In this trip, I walk through the setup that keeps me comfortable. We look at setting up a reliable canvas tarp to create a dry living space, which allows for enjoyable outdoor cooking regardless of the conditions outside. Keeping your fire going and your gear dry is about preparation and patience, not just expensive equipment.
