Camping solo on a quiet night / Fatwood processing.

A forest camping trip by a quiet lake. I prepare my campfire using fatwood before setting up my tent.

Sometimes, camping in the forest doesn’t have to be a complex adventure or a battle against the elements. It’s enough to simply find a quiet spot to set up camp and enjoy the tranquility by the water’s edge. It’s the perfect opportunity to get back to the basics of campcraft, far from the noise and complications of everyday life.

Preparing fatwood has become a soothing ritual—an essential step for quickly getting a good campfire going. Once my camp was set up, pitching the tent went off without a hitch, allowing me to fully take in the view of Lac du Repos at sunset. It’s in these moments of simplicity that one truly appreciates life in the great outdoors.
